Arsenal midfielder Santi Carzola will not feature for the first team for another three months as he continues his recovery from injury.

The Spanish international who is currently sidelined by a long term injury has been heavily missed on the pitch as Wenger continues to rotate midfield pairings with Xhaka at the center of the pack.

Arsene Wenger while speaking after Monday’s routine 2 nil success over West Bromwich Albion disclosed that Cazorla won’t be back until after Christmas, but the signs are positive for a return at that stage.

Wenger said: “The first signs are positive. But still he has not played for one and a half years,” reports the Daily Star via Daily Cannon.

“It won’t be before Christmas. He is not in full training yet, he needs a few games with the reserve team. So I think if all goes well, it will be after Christmas.”

The frustration of being unable to pick such a quality midfielder can be sensed in Wenger’s comments, who feels the player has been out for “a year and a half”. The gaffer’s timeline is not quite accurate, because the Spaniard injured himself playing in the group stage of the Champions League against Ludogorets last October, 11 months ago.

Pending no setbacks, the midfield maestro should be fully fit before the turn of the year. His goal scoring threat from deep and his technical abilities on the ball would likely see Carzola feature heavily in the second half of the season.

With the 32-year-old into the last year of his contract, his performances and fitness are expected to go long way in determining if his stay at the Emirates would be extended beyond the current campaign.
