According to reports making the round, Chelsea new boss Maurizio Sarri is prepared to axe Gary Cahill and David Luiz claiming the duo have no part to play in his team this season.

The report further claims that the Blues are already on the hunt to sign defensive reinforcements during the January window.

Cahill has often found himself benched by previous Chelsea managers, including Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho, only to force his way back into the team.

But this is the first time he has been left in the stands, with Sarri claiming that defenders take longer to learn his methods.

Luiz has been a regular in Maurizio Sarri’s side this season, partnering Antonio Rudiger in a back four.

The Brazilian struggled under Antonio Conte last season, with many expecting Andreas Christensen to break through and cement a place in the side under Sarri.

The report further claims the Blues were looking to sign Caldara over the summer, but he joined Milan from Juventus as part of the deal to take Leonardo Bonucci back to the Old Lady.
