Ian Wright has taken a swipe at Alex Iwobi while hailing Arsenal’s Carabao Cup hero Eddie Nketiah.
Nketiah scored two goals against Norwich City on Tuesday, pushing us through to the quarterfinal of the competition and the youngster subsequently received praises from almost every corner.
Wright has now joined the list of football men who hailed Nketiah for his performance on the night but in the process took swipe at Iwobi.
Just like Nketiah, Iwobi broke into the first team when no one expected him to, but the academy graduate has somehow taken his foot off the pedal.
Wright has now urged Nketiah to continue to prove his worth, slamming Iwobi in the process.
“He’s somebody that has came on and made a difference,” Wright said about Nketiah on Sky Sports show The Debate, as quoted by the Daily Star.
“We’ve had a few players, Alex Iwobi, for example, has came through recently and then fizzled out a little bit.
“He’s still amongst the first team but you just want someone to come through and make this kind of impact.
“I know it’s against Norwich in the Carabao Cup but if he can continue to progress and get into the first team and the Premier League then obviously he’s someone to be excited about.”
Wright’s comment may be a little too harsh on Iwobi but the former striker does have a point.
I believe the aim of this comment is to help all youngsters at the club. Iwobi still has a lot to learn in the game and I believe the Nigeria international will continue to improve.
