Signed and sealed- star Likely to stay until end of 2020 after reaching agreement with Arsenal

Joseph Olowu is extending his loan with Cork City to the end of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division season, according to reports.

Irish outlet Echo Live report that Cork City will retain Joseph Olowu on loan until the end of the season, despite initial plans for the player’s spell to end this summer.

Cork essentially took Olowu on a half-season loan in February. Their season works on a calendar-year basis, and they only planned to keep the defender until June. Unfortunately, just a few games into the spell, the pandemic hit.

Unlike the English Premier League, the Airtricity League is still off at the moment. The plan is for a restart on July 31st, with an 18-game season planned (meaning each team plays the other nine twice).

Results from the season so far count towards that 18, meaning Cork City have 13 left. Whilst not a huge number of fixtures to get through, you’d expect the season to carry on until at least October. With international breaks, possibly November.

Essentially, it seems likely Arsenal will get Olowu back towards the end of the year. We’ll have to wait for the full fixture list to know for sure. It’s better for him than sitting around waiting for the u23 season to return this Autumn!
