It seems the Gunners are paying the price for their failure to afford a bright young talent sufficient opportunities in the first team. Reine-Adelaide has a big future, and it seems Lyon will be the beneficiaries of Arsenal’s shortcomings.

Emery is hardly in need of another winger for the here and now; he has options such as Reiss Nelson and club-record signing Nicolas Pepe. However, this transfer is a reflection of the Gunners’ inability to maximise youth products’ potential under the previous regime.

As it has been aptly put above, there are shades of Serge Gnabry’s tenure at the Emirates. Reine-Adelaide could go on to be another one who got away.
