Glenn Hoddle insists Mesut Ozil could have few complaints after he was hauled off by Unai Emery during Arsenal’s match against Chelsea.
The now former Germany international retained his place in the starting line-up despite an ineffectual display in last weekend’s defeat at the hands of Manchester City.
Emery sounded a warning to Ozil in his pre-match press conference, asking the 29-year-old increase his work rate, particularly when his team are not in possession.
But the former Real Madrid star turned in another quiet performance and was substituted midway through the second half.
As Ozil trudged off, Hoddle told BT Sport: ‘The fact he’s taken him off is the correct decision.
‘He hasn’t worked hard enough defensively for them.
‘He hasn’t really put people in he’s been OK but you’re being paid that much you’ve got to do more than he’s done on the day.
