Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes Jack Wilshere is Arsenal’s best midfielder when fit.
Wilshere’s future at Arsenal has been the subject of debate for quite sometime. His contract expires at the end of the season and there is no sign of an extension.
Several reports have claimed this could be Wilshere’s last season at the club but Jenas has warned that it might be a big mistake if he is allowed to leave the Emirates.
“I do yeah (think he is the solution),” said the pundit.
“I think some of the players that have come into Arsenal over the last couple of years have been odd buys.
“I don’t think they have been Arsenal-type players.
“He’s their best midfielder for me, him alongside Santi Cazorla naturally are the two best midfielders they have got.
“Obviously the fitness has been a genuine issue for Jack.
“It seems behind the scenes the word is he’s playing better than ever.
“I think that little experience at being away to Bournemouth has probably reiterated to him ‘I want to be back at Arsenal’.
“Sometimes you’ve got to go away to really appreciate where you’re at.”
I am not sure many would disagree with Jenas as regards Wilshere’s quality.
It is his inability to stay fit that is threatening his Arsenal career and I am sure if he is able to get over his injury troubles, Arsenal would offer him a new long term contract.
Wenger recently stated that Wilshere has until January to prove he can stay fit and I am sure he will be rewarded with a new contract if he proves his fitness before the new year.
