Jose Mourinho said that he will make late checks on Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Anthony Martial and Phil Jones in Friday’s final training session, though no mention was made of Luke Shaw, who missed the midweek match against Arsenal.

Ashley Young returns from suspension and will possibly reclaim one of the full-back slots, meanwhile.

Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot made their first league starts of the season against the Gunners on Wednesday so a second appearance in the space of 72 hours might be a tall order for the pair.

Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian are the other options at full-back/wing-back.

Mourinho rolled out a 3-4-3 for the visit of Arsenal but may switch back to a 4-3-3 for Saturday’s clash with Fulham, with plenty of decisions to be made in midfield and attack.

Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Martial were impressive as a front three against Unai Emery’s side, though Rashford has started two games already in the last seven days and could be handed a rest – enabling Romelu Lukaku to return up front.

Martial’s potential unavailability (Mourinho having previously downplayed the problem, saying it was a “pre-injury”) could see Rashford move over to the left flank, though.

Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba could return to central midfield, with Ander Herrera possibly making way after playing 180 minutes across Gameweeks 14 and 15.

Alexis Sanchez (hamstring) and Victor Lindelof (muscle) remain out.
