Football Transfer News :Thiago Alcantara is top in Manchester United’s transfer list
According to football transfer news published by Daily Mail, English Premier League giants Manchester United are preparing to bring Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.
The report claims that the Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been monitoring the 21-year-old for quite some time now and had once earlier tried to acquire the services of Thiago by offering £15m for the Spanish lad, which got rejected by the Catalans about 18 months back.
Sir Alex Ferguson is still seeking for a long-term replacement for Paul Scholes and the Spain international is one of the first names on his list as per the reports.
Alcantara has failed to establish himself in the first team at the Nou Camp this season, making only 18 appearances for the club in the Spanish league.
Mazinho, father of Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara, recently revealed in football transfer news that his son is ready to make a move from the Nou Camp, as his son requires to play some regular first team football, in order to earn a call-up to the Spanish national side for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“My son would play a lot more in any other team in the world. He’s learning a lot playing with great players but Thiago is very ambitious and needs to play. Noone knows what might happen in the future. Football changes a lot and anything can happen. If Thiago wants to go to the 2014 World Cup, he needs to play much more.” said Mazinho.
“Thiago has the quality to succeed at Barca. But he’d play a lot more at another club. He’d get into any other team in the world. I don’t know if Barca are buying more players in the summer. They already have many players who can play in the middle. Also, [his brother] Rafinha will be part of the first team squad next season.” he added.
The Spanish international is considered as one of the greatest talents in European football, which has been one of the biggest reasons for the top clubs to have shown interest in signing the services of Alcantara, including the Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, where he would reunite with former coach Pep Guardiola. However, Alcantara has refused himself away from the reports.
The 21-year-old made his first-team debut for Barcelona against Mallorca in 2009, scoring his first goal for the club in 2010. He was signed for Barcelona as a 14-year-old after he moved to Spain at the age of five. He was signed under a new deal with a buyout clause of €30m (£25m) two years ago.
Barcelona’s officials seem to be eager to keep hold of their prized asset, but they might be forced to sell the services of Alcantara if the player requests for a transfer at the end of the season.
