Arsenal will face competition from Olmypique Marseille and AC Milan for the services of Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup, according to the Daily Cannon.
Reports in Turkey have continuously linked Arsenal with a move for Ozyakup who has been impressive for Besiktas in recent years.
The midfielder came through Arsenal academy, but didn’t make a league debut for the club before he was sold.
Arsenal are understood to be impressed by Ozyakup’s development and are now lining up a move for him.
His contract at Besiktas expires at the end of the season and it doesn’t appear like he is interested in signing a new deal.
Arsenal are monitoring developments closely and could make a move to sign him in the future.
We’re rumored to be preparing a January bid for him but I think Arsenal are keen on getting him on a free transfer, considering we allowed him leave for a lot less than £1m.
Arsenal are entitled to 30% of Ozyakup’s transfer fee if Besiktas decides to sell in January and the Turkish giants are reluctant to pay Arsenal any money.
They’ve supposedly held talks with the club over the possibility of scrapping out the sell-on clause but they were turned down.
With six months left in his contract, Besiktas won’t be able to make enough profit from his sale in January because of the clause, so they might favor him running down his contract.
Arsenal would now have to battle the likes of Marseille and Milan for his signature in the summer.
It remains to be seen whether Ozyakup would want to return to a club where he couldn’t get the chance to make his debut.
If he does decide to return, he won’t be a bad signing.
