Arsenal will reportedly explore the opportunity of signing Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld in summer.
The Belgian centre-half, 30, could leave for just £25million — way below his market value — due to a clause in his contract extension.
The Gunners will have to lock horns with Manchester United who have been linked with the Belgium star in the last few transfer windows and now Arsenal and Chelsea are said to be keen too.
Tottenham activated the clause by extending his deal for another year meaning he could leave for a cut-price unless he signs new terms.
So far there have been no official approaches but terms of his release clause can be met up to July 26, two weeks before the transfer deadline.
Alderweireld moved to Spurs from Atletico Madrid in 2015 after a successful loan spell with Southampton.
He has made 155 appearances in all competitions and scored six goals.
If he does move to Arsenal, he would follow in the footsteps of Sol Campbell who made the same switch to Spurs’ north London rivals in a bitter transfer.
Campbell ran down his contract at Tottenham before moving to the Gunners on a free in 2001 and went on to win two Premier League titles, going the entire season unbeaten in their 2003-04 ‘invincibles’ campaign.
