Unai Emery has intimated he retains the full support of Arsenal’s board, despite a dismal run of results. The Spaniard was backed significantly in the transfer market over the summer with the likes of Kieran Tierney, Nicolas Pepe and David Luiz arriving to bolster a squad which capitulated badly at the end of last season culminating in a 4-1 defeat against Chelsea in the Europa League final.

Despite the expensive additions, Emery has failed to inspire an upturn in fortunes and the Gunners could fall nine points adrift of the top four should they lose at in-form Leicester on Saturday.

The former Valencia and PSG boss was forced to issues a defiant statement in the wake of speculation that Jose Mouirnho is touting for his job following Wednesday’s disappointing draw against Vitoria.

Emery insists he has spoken recently to Arsenal’s heirarchy which includes head of football Raul Sanllehi and technical director Edu but they have given him no indication they are looking to replace him.

He said: ‘No. We are speaking about our process to continue working and they did not show me some doubts.’

While Arsenal have struggled to convince on the field, Emery’s mishandling of the captaincy situation which saw him forced to demote Granit Xhaka last week has reportedly caused divisions in the dressing room.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will skipper the side tomorrow at the King Power and Emery insists the club’s top scorer this season is the right man for the job.

He said: ‘The first captain is Aubameyang because he is experienced and he has the respect of the dressing room.

‘“He was the top scorer last year in the league and I know he needs time to take that responsibility 100% but we will support him.

‘Every player will support every captain (Aubameyang, Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette) and we are going to support him as first captain.’
