Unai Emery tells Arsenal’s new Head of Football his first January transfer target

According to a report from the Sun, Arsenal manager Unai Emery is reportedly keen on working with Ever Banega with the report claiming Emery will instruct the new head of football at the club to help seal a deal for the Sevilla man in January.

The Argentine midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates over the summer, as they have a strong relationship after working alongside each other at Sevilla and Valencia.

Banega’s contract at Sevilla has a £17.5m release clause and he reportedly turned down the chance to join the London side after the World Cup.

But Emery is desperate to convince him to change his mind and will make another attempt to get his man in January rather than wait until summer.

The Argentine would be available on a free contract because his contract expires in June.

The deal will be the first for Arsenal’s new leadership duo Sanllehi and Vinai Venkatesham to get over the line after replacing Ivan Gazidis.

Former chief executive Ivan Gazidis has opted to join AC Milan, and Sanllehi – previous sporting director at Barcelona – will be tasked with controlling transfers in his absence.
