Arsenal will reportedly make a move for Barcelona midfielder Rafinha Alcantara next summer should Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez both leave the Emirates.

The superstar duo who have less than a year on their current contracts look likely to quit the Gunners at the end of the season.

Sanchez made known his intention to leave the Emirates during last summer’s transfer window and only remained for the season after his desired move to rivals Manchester City fell through on deadline day.

It is understood that the Chilean still wants out and will leave in one of the windows next year.

Ozil on the other hand is still open to extending his stay in North London beyond the current campaign, but with no news to report regarding any progress on a contract extension, the German international could very well join the Chilean out the exit door next year.

With the likely departure of the duo on the cards, Wenger is understood to be monitoring a few top talents around Europe. Reports emanating from Spain have now revealed that the French gaffer has designs on signing Rafinha.

It is Mundo Deportivo via Mirror that has revealed that the Gunners could look towards the Catalans’ playmaker next summer should they fail to hold on to Ozil and Sanchez.

The midfielder was expected to be surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou following the arrival of Paulinho last summer and the return to midfield of Sergi Roberto this season. New Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde however wanted to keep hold of the players at the club.

Rafinha has so far failed to make an impression on the new boss, although injuries have played a huge role, and could be moved on next year. Should the Brazilian arrive at the Emirates, he would be more of a like-for-like replacement for Ozil than Sanchez.
