Arsene Wenger has hailed the current youth set up as the best he has had since he joined Arsenal 21 years ago.

Wenger has already forged a good reputation working with youngsters, having promoted a number of them from the academy to the first team in the past.

Our academy has become one of the best under Wenger’s tenure and it appears we are yet to actually see the best of the academy.

Despite the illustrious list of youngsters who have worked under Wenger, the manager believes the current crop of academy players are the best he’s had in his 21 years at the club.

Ahead of the Carabao cup against Doncaster Rovers, Wenger said:

“They are comparable to the best I’ve had before – some are really promising. Now we are at a stage to find out if they have the quality and the second step is to develop them by good coaching.

“The third step is to integrate them in first team and that is the most difficult because the level of competition in the Premier League is so high now. This season is a very important one for some of them and this competition (the League Cup) is a very important one for them too.”

A couple of these players like Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson are believed to be knocking on the first team door already and are expected to break into the first team in the nearest future.

Alex Iwobi, Hector Bellerin and Jack Wilshere are some of the stars that progressed from the academy to the first team and Wenger will be hoping many more will follow in these footsteps.
