Ian Wright has had a pop at Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger over Theo Walcott’s departure.

Wenger has come under pressure after a series of poor results, including the shock FA Cup exit to Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

With signs of discontent growing at the Gunners, Wenger and his men could miss out on another top-four finish this season.

And Arsenal legend-turned-pundit Wright thinks Walcott has been held back by Wenger.

“The talk is that Arsene Wenger doesn’t improve players,” Wright told Sky Sports’ The Debate.

“Theo is the same player as when he joined, he’s just older.”

  1. Oh Ian, come on. We love you. he improved you, Henry, Bergkamp, Vieira, Petit, Sol etc. and is working on the next gen. He may not be as effective as he once was, but every magicians powers weaken as they get older. Walcott did not have the desire or killer instinct to improve. I think thats a weak argument.

  2. Ian Wright never misses an opportunity to criticise Wenger. Is it really Wenger’s fault that Theo has not developed into a great player? Maybe the truth is that Theo, while he has a good goal scoring record, lacks the skill set of, say, Sterling, with whom he is often compared. Did Henry, Fabregas and Wilshere fail to develop as players while under Wenger’s tutelage?
