Arsenal could face competition from Real Madrid for Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to reports.
Arrizabalaga’s contract expires at the end of this season and Arsenal have been credited with an interest in signing the 22 year old on a free transfer.
However, Italian journalist Alfredo Paulista has smashed Arsenal’s hope of signing the goalkeeper.
According to the popular journalist via the Daily Cannon, Arrizabalaga only wants to join Madrid and is patiently waiting for his contract to expire to make the move to the Spanish capital.
Bilbao are determined to keep the Spaniard and have offered him a new deal but he is stalling on signing the contract because his club wants to include a €75m release clause in his contract.
The goalkeeper’s camp knows such figure will deter suitors and is refusing to agree to such terms.
He’s been offered a new deal worth mammoth €5m a year but that still hasn’t convinced him to sign the new deal, which is likely down to his ambition to play for a bigger club.
Arsenal are believed to be scouring the market for a Cech’s long-term replacement and has been linked with a host of talented young goalkeepers.
Kepa might truly be on our radar but if he has set his mind on a move to Madrid, I think we will be better off staying away from him
