Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been slammed for a comment he made following the Gunners’ Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City on Sunday.

Arsenal were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva.

Following the game, Wenger revealed a conversation he had with fourth official Graham Scott about the amount of second-half stoppage time.

Wenger said: “When I said ‘Why do you not give more time?’ he told me ‘Why do you want more time?’.”

ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley cannot understand why Wenger was even thinking about that while Arsenal were 3-0 down at the time.

He says Arsene Wenger should have asked for the referee to blow the full-time whistle early.

“Let’s start with the fact that he, in a press conference, is talking about why the fourth official put a certain amount of time up on the board,” Burley said.

“He’s asking for an explanation about how long, we’re talking 30 seconds, a minute, whatever the disparity was between the fourth official and him.

“What the hell? What the hell is he interested in that for?

“He should just be getting off the field.

“He should be asking the fourth official to ask the referee to blow up early, get his players in and get out of there, because they were a shambles.

“It’s bizarre, it was absolutely bizarre that this even cropped up.”
