Arsenal have been credited with an interest in signing Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye next Year.

Wenger is understood to be monitoring options to revamp his midfield and the French gaffer believes recruiting Gueye could improve his team as the player would be an ideal partner for Xhaka in the middle of the park.

The Senegalese international has been a huge success since his arrival in the Premier League two years ago.

Despite suffering relegation in his first season with Aston Villa, the 28-year-old covered himself in glory all through the season with impressive performances and was thus rewarded with a switch to Everton.

Since his arrival in Merseyside last year, Gueye has continued to go from strength to strength and continues to receive rave views for his industrious performances.

Recent reports in the English press have indicated that the Gunners alongside London rivals Chelsea are monitoring the player at Goodison Park and could swoop for the player next year.

The Toffees who are understood to be aware of interest in the player are desperate to tie him down on an improved long term contract.

According to the Sun via Daily Cannon, Arsenal and Chelsea are both keen on Gueye as they look to bolster their midfield.

However, Everton are reportedly set to tie the 28-year-old down to a new bumper deal in a bid to ward off the two London clubs.

Wenger’s interest in the player may come as a huge surprise to most Gooners, but a critical look at the gaffer’s midfield options shows Francis Coquelin is the only true defensive midfielder in the squad.

While the jury is still out on Coquelin’s ability to perform on the big stage, the French man has however been plagued by fitness problems of late.
