Arsenal have all but completed the signing of Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba after an official statement from the Ligue 1 outfit revealed that the youngster will sign a new deal with the Gunners.
The Gunners went through thick and thin before they eventually got a great response from Saint-Etienne, no thanks to Tottenham’s last-minute decision to hijack prevent the deal from materializing.
It was a crazy transfer tug-of-war between the two North London outfits as Tottenham offered a huge €30m as part of their plans to leapfrog the Gunners in the race for the 18-year-old defender.
Unfortunately for Mauricio Pochettino and his team, Arsenal immediately offered an improved €33m bid to Saint-Etienne for the player.
After all the late transfer dramas, the Ligue 1 outfit, via their president Bernard Caiazzo , confirmed Saliba’s preparedness to sign a long-term contract with the Gunners.
While speaking with France-based media outlet Le progres, the president confirmed that contract talks with Arsenal are already concluded and everything is going on fine.
‘Everything is on the right track with Arsenal,’ Caiazzo told Le Progres.
Meanwhile, the youngster will remain in France for next season as he is expected to be loaned back to Saint-Etienne to continue his steady and pacy growth.
