Liverpool target Xherdan Shaqiri have broken silence on the rumours linking him with a move to Anfield this summer, according to the Express.

Tottenham, Southampton and Everton have all been credited with an interest in the 26-year-old, who is reported to have a release clause of £13.5 million (€15m).

The Stoke City winger will head to Russia with his national team this week, with the Swiss set to take on Brazil, Costa Rica and Serbia in Group E of the tournament.

And he said: “I do not know why you’re talking about Liverpool right now.

“I can not say at the moment. There I have my advisors, my brother looks for my future. I focus only on the national team.

“I can not say that now. The transfer window will be open in a month, then we’ll see what happens.”

Liverpool wants the forward to provide competition for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino next term and have also been linked with a move for Nigeria international Simon Moses.

  1. Shaqiri is a great player. I followed him at Bayern and he looked decent. But with Keita also coming in, its difficult to know here Shaqiri will fit in the Reds squad. Reds currently don’t seem to have a playmaker and attack in numbers. Given the attacking players we have we need someone in the mould of Xabi Alonso… deep laying playmaker to spray accurate passes from deep but still retain defending instincts.
