Arsenal will have to pay £25m for Yannick Carrasco after his club Dalian Yifang set their price for the Belgium international, according to the Evening Standard. The 25-year-old has been on Arsenal’s radar since January and almost joined on loan before Unai Emery switched his attention to Barcelona’s Denis Suarez instead.

Suarez’s failure to make an impression in north London means that the club have revisited a potential move for Carrasco and they made an enquiry about taking him on loan with an option to buy. Dalian Yifang are reluctant to loan Carrasco out and would rather offload him permanently in order to reinvest the funds on securing a replacement.

Carrasco is said to be earning approximately £170,000 per week in China but is believed to be willing to lower his wage demands in order to secure a return to Europe.

Last week, Carrasco confirmed his intention to leave China, saying: ‘From a family point of view, I would rather play in Europe and stay closer to my family.

‘The adjustment for my family was also difficult over there [China].’ Emery’s desire to improve his squad this summer has been made more difficult due to the club’s restrictive transfer budget which is reported to be between £40-45m.

Consequently, Arsenal are exploring ways to pay for Carrasco which could include staggering payments over a period of time or including various performance related add-ons in the deal.

Carrasco previously played for Monaco and Atletico Madrid prior to his move to Asia and famously scored in the 2016 Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Emery is keen to add a goalscoring winger to his ranks as Henrikh Mkhitaryan was Arsenal’s next-top goalscorer behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette last season with only six Premier League goals.
